The novel, “To kill a Mocking Bird” is often censored by many and even banned because there was severe racism or bad languages and sexual scenes in it.
I think that we should not ban or censor things like this because it is what happens in reality. We cannot keep avoiding what happens in the reality that has bad language or whatever that is bad influence to children. I think it is important to read about them. To know what life is. Especially like the racial themes in the novel. This is an important issue that people need to be aware of. Just because someone thinks that there are unpleasant things in the story that they do not agree with or find it a bad education, they have no right to censor or ban the book. Making books like these clean does not help at all. They need to learn about the “bad” stuff as well to survive in this world.
I think that censoring this book would be like erasing the history. This book had a great story line in it. It teaches people about how people were back then. How racism was severe. Erasing all this is as if racism never happened. I think that we still live in a society that is surrounded with racism happening everywhere. Efforts in to trying to erase or censor this book would be pointless. This type of books should be kept for people to read just as it is to learn about how the history was with racism. Knowing our history is an important thing. I think this issue in the book is necessary history in life that we need to keep learning about so it never gets repeated again.
Censoring this book may change the real meaning to what the author might have intended to mean. If they are removing words that are not educational or whatever the reason is, People would not know how real life was back then. With all the bad language and Sexual scenes and violence is when the true story comes out. If the book was censored and has made the book completely clean by removing violent scenes, sexually scenes, and bad languages would people really understand how life was back then? I don’t think so. Once someone chooses to read something then they should accept it as it is and read it to understand the full meaning to it.
