l “for he had been born with a cartilaginous tail in the shape of a corkscrew and with a small turf of hair on the tip” pg.20 This is obviously not possible in real life and it is where magical realism comes in.

III. Plot summary
In this chapter we find out that Jose Arcadio Buendia and Ursula Iguaran are cousins, the great grand children of Sir Francis. Ursula was always scared of getting deformed children as she knows that’s what happens when the blood is closely related. Prudencio Agular a villager implies that Buendia is impotent, so out of anger Jose Buendia kills him, however he leaves the village later because of guilt. Jose Buendia goes back to intense study after he remembers his dream about the mirrors of ice. Jose arcadio made a local woman pregnant, however later on he finds someone else that he falls in love with and ran off with her. The mum Ursula goes to find them leaving her newborn child. She came back 5 months later without fining them however said that she found a route to the outside world.
IV. Quotes
l “I don’t care if I have piglets as long as they can speak” pg.20 from this quote it seems like he resolves his problem with this phrase and convinces his wife that it will be ok.
l “If you bear iguanas, we’ll raise iguanas”pg.22 I think that Jose accepts whatever the truth is and I just liked it.
