I. Elements of Magical Realism
l “The woman said that he had been born with his eyes open, looking at people with the judgment of an adult” pg. 150 This is magical realism because it is not possible for a child to be born with eyes opened .
II. Characters

l Jose Maquel Maconda- new mayor of the town. Conservative and also humane and intelligent
l Colonel Aureliano Buendia- comes back to town and batize his kids and condemns the mayor to death

Aureliano Jose turns out to be in love with his aunt Amaranta. Since she was also feeling lonely they started having a thing with him. However it ended because she didn’t want it anymore and Aureliano Jose had to go join the army. While Macondo seems to be in peace, while the new mayor called Jose Maquel Maconda leads the town. When Aureliano came back hoping he could marry Amarnta, but she rejects him. Then one day he was killed by a conservative soldier. Soon after he dies Colonel comes back with his 17 sons to baptize them and name them all Aureliano. And Colonel condemns the mayor to death.
IV. Quotes
l “I don’t care if they’re born as armadillos” Pg. 149 its interesting because he doesn’t care about how his child will look because he is too much in love with her.
l “The only thing missing is for him to make chairs rock by simply looking at them pg.150 I like this because it shows that they are completely identical if that is the thing that she mentioned.
