I. Elements of Magical Realism
l “look at the air, listen to the buzzing of the sun, the same as yesterday and the day before, today is Monday too” pg.77 Jose Buendia is going crazy, and having the same day everyday cannot be true in real life.

III. Plot summary
Aureliano becomes lonely and tired from all his studying. He slept with the same local woman that his brother slept with. She helps Aureliano get together with Remedios. An Italian man named Pretro Crepsi who came to install a pianola. Rebeca and Amranta fall in love with him. But Crepsi decided to marry Rebeca instead of Amranta, but even thought Amranta was very jelous she left it. For the first time in the village a man died who was the gypsy. While Aureliano was getting closer with remedios, he found out the news that Ternera was pregnant but that didn’t bother him a lot. Amarnta was trying to destroy Rebeca’s wedding. Meanwhile Jose Buendia was depressed and went crazy from seeing flashbacks about killing someone before, so he was taken away to be tied under a tree and he stayed there.
IV. Quotes
l “Don’t get your hopes up. Even if they send me to the ends of the earth I’ll find some way of stopping you from getting married even if I have to kill you.” Pg.73 It is interesting because Aureliano is showing so much anger and Jealousness towards rebeca who was close to her just before this.
l “The man’s a fairy” pg. 60 I like it because everyone suddenly likes him and even Jose Arcadio Buendia likes him. It is as if he put magic on people to like him.
V. Themes
l Jealousy – Amaranta tries to destroy rebeca’s wedding because she also liked the same man as she did.
